Two Months

Katelyn is two month old today.  She weighs 8 lbs 2 oz.  She is still wearing newborn clothes and she is awake a lot more during the day.  Madelyn loves to hold her and help take care of her.  Caleb likes to hold her and hit her on the head.

Day 11 and 12

Katelyn struggled a little on feedings and keeping her temp on Wednesday, but nothing that really concerned the doctors. She weighed 4 lbs 10 ozs. They did the sleep test on her Wednesday night. Also, she got to meet her great grandparents. Katelyn did much better yesterday. She has to come home on an apnea monitor. One nurse says no ever passes. She took a couple of bottles with 55 ml. she weighed 4 lbs 12.5 ozs. We had room in with her last night so we know how to use the apnea monitor. It went off like 8 times in the first hour. We hooked her back up to the NICU monitors and she was fine. We had the leads in the wrong place. Since we changed them, they have gone off twice. She did her carseat test yesterday and passes. She is going home today!!! Thanks for all of your prayers!!!

Day 10

Katelyn's doctor came in today and said the wanted to do a sleep test on her tomorrow night and if everything continues to go well then she could come home on Friday!!! She might have to come home with a apnea monitor, but that will be determined after the sleep test tomorrow (which the doctor said it was really hard to pass). If she come home with it, she will have to wear it 24 hours a day for a month. They will check it again after a month. She also gained more weight today. She is at 4 lb 9.4 oz.

Day 9

Katelyn got fed by the feeding tub e this morning at 3. She took a bottle for all of the other feedings. Also, I got to nurse her at the noon feeding which she seem to do well with. They only want me to nurse her one time a day. She gained more weight today. She was at 4 lb 7.9 oz and then today she was 4lb 8.4 ozs. Since Rob and the kids are not here, I spend all day with her. I enjoyed my day with my little girl. Hopefully, she continues to do well, so we can take her home soon. I hate leaving her at night.

Day 8

Today was a rough day because Rob and the kids had to go back to Indy. Rob went to all of her feedings and had alot of daddy and Katelyn time. I tried to spend alot of time with Madelyn and Caleb. It was sad when they had to leave. Hopefully this is the only week that we have to do this.

She got taken off the bed warmer and placed in clothes again today. She maintained her temp all day, which is good. She got placed in the crib this evening. The nurse thinks that she will be ready to go home in a couple of days. The only thing that is keeping her is getting her to eat 40ml of milk in 30 minutes. She gets tired very easily. However, we had them feed her through a feeding tube twice today to give her a break and she took the bottle tonight very quickly.

Day 7

Its hard to believe that she is a week old. It gets harder each day to leave her. We get to do alot of the things on our own now. We change her diaper and take her temperature. Also, we can get her in and out of her crib thing when we need to feed her. Today was a rough start to the day. They moved her feeding up to 40 ml, which she has to take or they will put a feeding tube back in. The first one she nursed which she did great but then would not take much of the bottle (which stressed me out). For the rest of her feedings, I decided not to nurse her because she seemed really tired. She just got the bottle. It took a while at the noon feeding, but she did great at 3, 6, and 9. They stoped her IV and the feeding tube that was in her nose was out (she pulled it out). She smiled a couple of times today. The nurse said her color looked really good and Katelyn smiled. It was really cute.

Caleb is having a hard time. He wants to be held all of the time but only standing up (which I can not do right now). He is a busy little guy. Always on the go and never stops. He use to hate pizza but has started to eating it since being in Fort Wayne. He looks to big now compared to his sister. He is such a cute little guy.

Madelyn is having a hard time also. She really wants to see her sister but no one understhe age of 18 can go into the NICU. Also, it is hard because mommy and dadddy keep leaving to go to the hospital. She has a cold right now and Rob was going to find her a doctor her in Fort Wayne to take her too. She got really scared because she didn't want the doctor to ripe open her stomach (poor girl). She is going to enjoy being a big sister to Katelyn.

Rob is taking the kids home tomorrow night, so he can work for a couple of days and they can go to daycare and preschool. It will be good for them to be around their friends. I am going to miss them and Rob. Hopefully, we won't have to do this for to long.

Day 6

Katelyn was allowed to wear clothes yesterday and feeding went to 25 ml plus I can try to nurse her, which she did pretty good with her first time. The last two nights we got to give her her bath. We went in today and she had no clothes on. She could not keep her temp, so back to her heated bed. She did great nursing today.

Update day 4

We went to feed katelyn her 9 clock bottle tonight. The nurse said she is wanting more food which is a good sign. She got 20 ml tonight and she started at 8 ml yesterday. She weighs 4 lbs 5 ozs so she has lost some weight. She is jaundice so she is under the lights. She loves to look at us while we are feeding her. Our hope is she will be able to go home in a week and a half.

Day 4

Katelyn got taken off oxygen today and is doing well. They called her their star pupil. She is doing great on bottles and has taken one for every feeding since yesterday. They keep increasing her feedings. She is at 14 ml right now. I am being released from the hospital today. Excited to spend some time with Madelyn and Caleb. Let's hope she will be ready to leave the nicu soon!!!

Starting over.

I think I am going to start using this blog so everyone can stay updated on katelyn. She was born 7 weeks early. We were in Fort Wayne for like 3 hours when I started to feel pain but I thought she was laying funny. It got a little bit better for a few a minutes. We went upstairs to get Madelyn and Caleb asleep and for like 10 minutes i felt pain again then started the gush of blood. I got up and went to the bathroom and it kept coming. Rob's parents were at Easter vigil so he ran and got the neighbor to watch the kids. Poor Madelyn was crying but she was brave. Rob finally got a hold of his dad. We got to the hospital and the ER person did not seem in a hurry even though I still had blood going down my legs. They got me upstairs and put me on the monitors and baby was doing great. Rob called my doctor and got my records faxed to the new place. We got to the hospital about 7:15. By 8:15, i had an ultrasound which lasted an hour. The time between the ultrasound and them telling us what was wrong was horrible. By 9:45 they finally told us that we had to do a c-section now. The plentca had detach. They moved very quickly. They got my spinal in and the doctor started. They went so fast that rob was walking in as she was being born. She came out screaming which was as great sound. Rob and I got to see her for a second. She was born at 10:32 on April 7th (holy Saturday) and Madelyn was born on good Friday. We got to see katelyn that night around 2. She was 4lbs 15 ozs and 18 inches. She has really long fingers and toes just like mom and sister. We got to hold her for the first time when she 18 hours old. She was on a c-pack for about 12 hours. All the nurse think she is the cute little girl, which I agree. I will try to keep this updated
